This beauty belonged to my mom, who was an avid Blue Ridge Southern Potteries collector. The demure pattern, Carol’s Roses, is a vibrant medley of roses, buds and foliates scattered about the vase. The official name of the vase’s shape is Delphine which is the only ruffled vase Southern Potteries made. It is believed that Blue Ridge Southern Potteries created between 4,000 and 5,000 different patterns, however, most of the records have been lost or destroyed over the years. Another quirky fact, the company did not name the patterns because they operated basically on a numbering system. Most patterns have been given names by collectors over the years, therefore, you might have a description in a reference guide that refers to a pattern by one name and then find the same design in another source listed with a different name. The makers mark on the bottom was used from the late 1930s to the early 1940s. It measures 9½” high; 3” lip diameter; 4½” base diameter; weight 14 oz.; crafted from hand painted bisque china; a rainbow of vibrant colors which includes blush, yellow, cranberry, varying shades of green on a milky white background; handcrafted in Erwin, TN. In excellent condition with little to no use wear. Underglaze colors pops can be seen here and there that do not detract from the beauty of the vase and are original to the manufacturer. If you’re a collector of Blue Ridge Southern Potteries vases, this beauty is a must have!
