An antique Continental hand carved, painted and richly gilded architectural solomonic column, very likely Italian in origin, finished in Baroque taste, richly detailed and exceptionally executed, having a parcel gilt and polychrome painted wooden spiral turned "barley sugar" twist helical column standard decorated with sculpted twining vine adorned with grape clusters and ebonized three leaf clover accents, topped with a carved giltwood classical order Corinthian capital, surmounted by later large faux candle.
The 19th century European antique salvaged ornamental building element was previously fashioned as a large table lamp or free-standing floor lamp, in the 20th century, electrified, with molded edge square stepped plinth base and substantial sized faux candle cover added, but later having the light and European wiring removed.
The deep, red wine color along with the grape vine motif indicate it's possibly from an altar or part of another religious element, in ecclesiastical context such ornament may be read as symbolic of the wine used in the Eucharist.
