Imperial Glass introduced Twisted Optic in 1927. It was a Depression glass pattern that had the look-and-feel of elegant glass but was not classified as such. The pattern was retired in 1930. This beauty’s refined finish, with a nod to the Art Deco period into which it was “born”, starts with a rolled rim pale marigold bowl that rests atop a clear glass pedestal. The interior of the bowl is where all the action takes place with an intense iridescent marigold in a twisted optic design, almost like a continuous swirl and quite mesmerizing. Depending on lighting, the intensity of the marigold twisted optic swirl varies; quite lovely! A nickname given to this pattern by collectors is Optic Swirl but the official name given by Imperial Glass is Twisted Optic. It measures 7” x 3” x 3¼” W/H/D; weight 14 oz.; medium is pressed glass with a quality finish and details that are a step above the most common Depression glass. Color is iridescent marigold, pale almost translucent marigold and clear glass. For a piece that is approaching 100 years of age, it is in excellent condition with wear that is normal for piece of its age. A few fine line scratches on the rolled rim, that are mostly indiscernible and do not detract from its beauty. There are random inclusions, inherent in any glassware and original to the manufacturer. For a collector of iridescent Depression glass, this beauty will be a great add to that collection or an excellent gift for someone that is.
