Print features the Desert House in Palm Springs, CA in January 1970. The Desert House was designed by Richard Neutra for Edgar J. Kaufmann. In the image, Lita Baron approaches, while in the foreground (left) Nelda Linsk, wife of art dealer Joseph Linsk, is talking to her friend, Helen Dzo Dzo. Slim Aarons described his photographs of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s as documenting “attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places.” As a postwar photographer who had earned a Purple Heart in combat, Aarons perfected the environmental portrait. His subjects were society swans, European aristocracy, and Hollywood royalty in beautiful hideaways like Palm Beach and Sardinia.
