Beautiful 19th century lithograph by London engraver Peltro William Tomkins (1759-1840) of an earlier stipple oval — framed and under glass. Tomkins, who worked in dot and stipple style, served as historical engraver to Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen consort of George III. Titled ‘The Morning,’ this hand-colored print, based on an earlier work by English painter and illustrator William Hamilton (1751-1801), depicts the morning activities of women and children in the English countryside.
The print itself has aged very well, having evenly browned up to edge of the matting, which shows heavier and somewhat uneven browning. See photos.
