Unframed limited edition serigraph on paper from the Evolution Series by Thomas Whelan Benton. Hand signed, dated and numbered by the artist in pencil. Paper Size: 35" x 35", Image Size: 32" x 32". Edition Number: XVI/XLV. (Aside from the edition of 250). Dated 1981. Condition is Excellent. There is a small mark in the top right margin which you should be able to mat over. A real small, faint mark above the signature. Some very minor scuff marks in the surface of the ink. 100 percent guarantee of authenticity. Certificate of Authenticity is included. Make a offer!
BIO:
Thomas Whelan Benton (1930-2007) was an American artist best known for his political posters and silkscreen artwork. His friendship and collaboration with gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson spanned more than four decades and created or inspired some of Benton’s most recognized works, including a series of political posters that combined Benton's art and Thompson's writing — the Aspen Wall Posters.
Benton went on to create campaign posters for more than fifty candidates including George McGovern, Gary Hart and Pitkin County Sheriff Bob Braudis. He also created numerous cause posters for local benefits, non-profits and charitable causes that suited his beliefs. Benton’s art continued to evolve throughout his lifetime from political posters to abstract silkscreen prints, monotypes and oil paintings. Benton was diagnosed with advanced lymphoma in early 2007, and died April 27, 2007.
