As corny as it might sound, when I saw this all I could think was, “Wow, where have YOU been all my life?”
As a bonafide antique dealer, I’m used to seeing and chasing the “unusual,” but this really took the top of my head off.
I’m calling this “kitchen art” or “kitchen sculpture.” Does it have to reside in the kitchen? Certainly NOT!! I’d be proud to display it anywhere – living room, dining room, you name it. Why? Because I thrive on “conversation starters.” And won’t this beauty crank up a few, uh, conversations!
You’ll know quickly enough who you want around.
The whys or wherefores of this amazing “thing” elude me, and I can’t really even tell how old it is. The metalwork is super well-done and the corn… well, it’s so real looking I can only imagine that it is real… although it weighs a lot more than 10 ears of corn would. Who knows, maybe these ears have been the equivalent of “bronzed” – you know, like Baby’s shoes hanging from the rear view mirror?
All ten ears are in extremely good condition excellent in fact -- the only question is whether a couple of kernels have popped off or whether the few naturally empty spaces there are have been left bare to create a more authentic look. In other words, this thing is in near-mint condition.
So cool, who wouldn’t want it?
(One vigilant observer recently stated that this is an "antique corn-drying" device. Who wudda have imagined?)
