A transferware platter by Thomas Mayer, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Circa 1826-1838.
From the Oriental Scenery series, a black transfer on a white earthenware body, showing exotic sailing vessels filled with oarsmen preparing to dock beside pillared neoclassical buildings. The central scene is bordered by floral garlands, the shaped rim shows a wide scrolled and floral border against a geometric background.
An impressed makers mark and Stoke.
Measures: 17 in. L x 14 in. w x 1.5 in. H
Showing some wear, a small stain to the front at 12:00, glaze slipping to the rim.
No chips or cracks, still lovely with a crisp, detailed transfer.
