Over 70 years ago this delightfully pleasing-to-the eye jug was crafted in Japan. Its whimsical "windowpane" motif serves as a background for a host of hand painted camellias scattered about the jug. With its wide spout and architecturally interesting handle, it’d be a fabulous vessel to fill with live blooms or simply display as a charming accent piece on a shelf or tabletop. It measures 7” wide (handle-to-spout tip) x 6” x 5” H/D; weight 1 lb.; handcrafted from earthenware with a highly glazed finish with a "windowpane" motif; the overall color is pale key lime with brick red camellias. The makers mark on the bottom is known as the Cherry Blossom, a mark sub-contracted by the Nippon Toki Kasha Company (Noritake Company) to independent companies making porcelain for export to the US market. Many of these companies were in business for very short periods of time, so there is no way to tell which company is responsible for making this beauty. The style is indicative of a vessel made post WWII, so late to mid 1950s to early 1960s. In excellent condition with minimal user wear. Some under the glaze flecks that are original to the manufacturer and in no way affect the beauty of the jug. It's looking for a great new home, might it be yours?
