The glassworks in Pieńsk had been operating since 1858. In 1886 at ul. Dąbrowskiego 44, the CH Schubert & Co. glassworks was opened. Its owners were three industrialists: H. Schubert, R. Roder and O. Patzler. In 1903, the C.H. Schubert & Co merged with the Putzler brothers' glassworks - one of the largest glassworks in Pieńsk, founded by brothers Oskar and Edmund Putzler, which in the 1880s was famous for the production of high-quality lampshades. 850 people were employed at the Putzler steelworks in the pre-war period.
The glassworks in Pieńsk, destroyed during the war, were rebuilt and production was restored. In 1947, the glassworks of the Putzler brothers merged with the Peill und Sohn company, creating the Peill & Putzler Glashüttenwerke. The production was moved to Germany, while the factory in Pieńsk at ul. Dąbrowskiego 44 was taken over by a Polish investor and changed its name to Huta Szkła "Lucyna".
In the 1990s, the glass industry collapsed. In 2007, Huta "Lucyna" went bankrupt, and the neo-Gothic buildings of the steelworks, built in 1900-1925, were taken over in 2011 by the Pieńsk commune.
