Description: We knew when we purchased it was an authentic Robert Emmett Owen but we had to be 100% sure. We opened the back of this estate find, here in New England, just to be sure that it was indeed an original pencil sketch by Robert Emmett Owen and not a print. We were pretty sure that it was a pencil drawing but what we found written on the back makes it just about the rarest piece of artwork by Owen. (see the AMAZING PICTURES) Not only did we verify that it was indeed a pencil drawing by using a cotton swab to lightly run over the surface as see if the pencil would adhere (do not worry we did not ruin the drawing by doing this, it is a verification method done by most appraiser). PLEASE Look at all pictures!! Just Amazing! Not only did we confirm that it was a pencil drawing, we also found the wording on the backside of the artist paper. It reads (I love the humor): First Newsboy "My Dad is a big gun." 2nd " "Yes I can see he is always loaded." (Sketches from Life) R. Emmett Owen Eric Pepe School of Art Farragal(?) Bldg. Boston, Mass A Truly RARE find, we were so happy we were jumping up and down for joy! Robert Emmett Owen lived here in New England and New York. I believe, and this is an assumption on my part, being that it came from an Estate in New England........ this was given to a family member or friend, who kept it in the family. When they passed, we luckily purchased it. Robert Emmett Owen is a very well listed artist. His works are mostly oils on canvas. He also completed many illustrations for Harper's , Life, The Boston Globe, Cosmopolitan, and Scribner's. The drawing is in excellent shape. The frame has some damage. If I were to keep it I would put it in a double glass frame so everyone could see the wonderful writing on the reverse. Framed and matted 16.25" x 20.25" Drawing is 13" x 11.75"
