Antique hand colored lithograph artwork "Cygnus Ferus" by Gould, Joseph Wolf, H.C. Richter. We are very proud to announce we have some of these rare and beautiful pieces for sale! We will be listing others from this set - so check out shop if you want different pieces from this same artist. This first addition, hand colored lithograph comes from "The Birds of Great Britain" and features a lovely scene of "Cygnus Ferus" AKA Whooper Swans. The artwork is on rag paper and has been professionally matted and framed. The scene depicted is a family of whooper swans in their natural environment with exquisite details throughout. The swan in the foreground is holding fresh foliage in it's mouth which is dripping into the water around it. In the background there are other swans, a group of ducks, and marshland plants. The artist captures every detail from the reflections and ripples in the water, to plumage, to the flora. This series is considered to be "the most sumptuous and costly of British bird books". The famed artist lived from 1804-1881. This piece was created in 1872. It would be magnificent on any wall! It can be hung via the universal metal bracket on the backside. The frame is hand caved solid wood with carved line work detailing. The matting is mostly a textured antique white with a small earthy brown accent. The wording a the bottom of the artwork reads from left to right: "J. Wolf & H C Richter, del el lith." , "Cygnus Ferus." , "Walter, Imp.".
