about the artist:
Charles Cerný (1892-1965), sometimes called Walter Cerny, was a Czech landscape painter , portraitist and still life painter. He studied in Prague, Munich, Vienna and Paris and exhibited his works at the Société des Artistes Indépendants in Paris since 1910. He later moved to France and worked in Lagny/Seine-et Marne. He became the official artist of the French Navy and was able thus to visit many exotic locations to paint. In these years, he painted a small anchor with his signature.
