My friend's brother purchased this wonderful statue while spending the summer of 1962 working in beach haven, long beach island. It was displayed in his various homes until it was packed away in the early-1980s and forgotten about. Recently rediscovered, it has been safely and securely stored for over 30 years. It is in excellent condition with age appropriate wear and no chips, cracks or other structural damage; it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. The sea gull's body was hand carved from a single piece of wood and attached to stick legs and a natural wood base. This decorative wood statue has a height of approximately 5 inches, a length of approximately 11 1/2 inches and a width of approximately 2 1/4 inches. With a base that measures 2 3/4 inches long and approximately 2 inches wide, it is not marked or signed. A quiet reminder of peaceful days sent sea side by the seashore, this carved wood shore bird has red and black glass inset eyes. With a graceful shape and simple features, the bird's body is entirely hand carved from a single piece of wood by a superbly talented artist who has created a primitively beautiful figure. The workmanship has wonderful texture and flowing lines that highlight the wood's grain making it ideal to add to any decorative setting. It is truly a unique work of American folk art that is both elegant and primitive at the same time. Carefully carved from solid hardwood, this sea gull bird features an interesting and original, painstakingly carved shape that is sure to draw attention and comment where ever it's displayed. Highly collectible, it is a thick, well-weighted piece that is a fun and exotic addition to any room and is sure to be complimented on by everyone who sees it. This wood sculpture was entirely hand crafted and depicts an unusual, neat figure of a perched sea gull bird. Rare, it is a museum quality piece of art with nice, simple details and a graceful form. A tribute to nature, this masterfully carved striking wood statue is just the right way to add a touch of earthy flair and natural mystique to your home or office décor. less
