GREAT INVESTMENT! This is a beautiful Original Oil Painting on Masonite by Listed Texas Artist, William Rakocy (b. 1924), titled "Fascination of Haddon Sundblom". This gorgeous image of a reclining nude female is an early work dated 1951, when Rakocy was in art school in Kansas City and still developing his style.
He clearly drew inspiration from the popular Haddon Sundblom advertisements of the period to create this classic image. It is signed in the lower right, dated 1951, and says "KC, MO" (Kansas City, MO). There is a BONUS PAINTING on the back, which looks like an unfinished piece.
Titled and dated again on the back. It is set in a brand new custom copper-toned frame to give it a sleek, mid-century modern look. Rakocy's early works are rather hard to find and this is an excellent example of his work. A similar piece came up for auction in 2007 and was estimated between $5,000-$10,000, and the current gallery ask price for a work of this caliber is $4500.
Certification: Gallery Certificate of Authenticity included.
Condition: The painting is in perfect condition. New custom frame pristine.
Measurements: The painting is 24"x31" and it is approx 25"x32" framed.
About the Artist: William Joseph Rakocy received his Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees at the Kansas City Art Institute. A resident of El Paso for over 40 years, Rakocy was an artist, author, and historian. His favorite subjects are the land, people, and history of El Paso and the surrounding countryside. Curator of Education at the El Paso Museum of Art and an award-winning artist, Rakocy is also the author of books on art, regional history and ghost towns. less
