I'm not an expert, so I don't know the type of wood, but it has a lovely fine grain and this baby is heavy, so hardwood. The workmanship is sublime, check out the wood-grain on the table top. It looks perfect upon casual inspection. Getting in close there are chips/wear to finish on a couple corners, and one corner has a small separation where it looks like the wood may have shrunk a bit. See photos. This is the original honey blonde color with a sage/gray detail for us purists, but if you're a risk taker, it might look super cool with a lacquer color of your choice. less
