- Extra large pair of hand colored prints framed in top quality faux bois and gilt Italian frames with glass. Post … more Extra large pair of hand colored prints framed in top quality faux bois and gilt Italian frames with glass. Post its discovery in 1770 in the ruins of Hadrian's villa in Tivoli - the "Warwick Vase" has captivated historians, antiquarians, and esthetes alike. Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) first recorded the ancient urn in two etchings that were part of his final published portfolio . We believe this duo (plus a matching single listed separately) are later reissues. Each printed on laid paper with embossed "plate" marks. Hand painted in a range of greens and blues. Both feature "parchment" patterned mats with hand painted gilt interior edges and border rules. Based on the labels on their reverse - they were framed in Italy sometime in the late 20th century. Each frame measures 35.75" wide x 30.25" high x 1" deep. Both art openings measure 22.5" x 17.5". Quite frankly we are not art experts. Hence we have not removed the backs and examined the etchings more closely. All that we know is that these are quality pieces. And highly decorative in appearance alone. Both etchings are in excellent condition - with no indication of "foxing', nor marks, folds, rips, or creases of note. Each displays a VERY, VERY, slight "wave" to the paper beneath the glass.
