- Description
- Sober and valuable French chest of drawers with two large and deep drawers, the locks and decorations are in bronze … more Sober and valuable French chest of drawers with two large and deep drawers, the locks and decorations are in bronze casting well detailed; very nice and particular the protection, always in bronze, that is at the end of the two front legs; the whole structure is made of walnut of excellent and sturdy quality, while the front of the drawers is made of precious elmwood with inlaid frames; the briarwood has a great aesthetic value, because, thanks to the many natural veins always different, is very elegant and refined, an object finished in briarwood is an absolutely unique product. At the center of the cabinet is a delicate and refined inlay of precious woods reproducing the allegory of Music; three medieval musical instruments (a lute, a bombarda, and an ancient flute with a curved mouth) are represented together with a score and shoots of flowers. The piano was made with a shaped slab of excellent marble "graniglia"; marble “graniglia” (grit) is one of the most ancient cladding materials, already used in Roman times, but the origin of this process is all Italian: it is a technique that consolidated its greatest splendor in Venice between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries (in fact, workers in the sector often call it "Venetian graniglia"(grit); is obtained by mixing small fragments of marble with natural cement and oxides; the fragments can have variable volumes, up to the size of the powder, so as to give life to the grit paste, much used in the 19th century. Our plan has an extraordinary, rare, and fascinating color combination. The chest of drawers as a whole is a small artistic masterpiece, a discreet and original piece of furniture, capable of creating quiet and peaceful atmospheres, giving romance and sophistication to any type of furniture. Made between 1870 and 1873 in a traditional craftsman's workshop near Paris, most likely in the medieval village of Provins, in fact, it was bought by us in a small antique market in the area. The chest is in its original condition and looks very good, there are only minor wear and tear due to the age (see photo). Measures width cm.77, depth cm.41, height cm.83. less
