Artist Biography:
George Shackelford is an American visual artist. He got his degree in Art History from 1973-1977 at Dartmouth College and his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from 1977-1986 at Yale University. He was a David E. Finley Fellow and Guest Curator at the National Gallery of Art from 1980-1984. After this he moved to Houston, Tx and served as the Curator of European Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston until 1996. He then transitioned to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and became the Art of Europe Chair where he served for 16 years until 2011. In 2012 he moved back to Texas and became the Deputy Director of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Tx where he continues to serve. See less
