Two vertical asymmetrical acrylic pieces mounted on … more A beautiful piece of modernist sculpture by famed Lucite designer, Hivo Van Teal. Two vertical asymmetrical acrylic pieces mounted on a square base, which when viewed head on reveal a Star of David formed by shapes cut in each angular piece.

The edging of the two vertical planes are angled, and when this piece is back or bottom-lit, has an amazing prism reflective quality (pics don't do this justice).

I am not an art expert, just someone that appreciates beautiful things. To me, what makes this piece so unique is that the two vertical planes are parallel, but Teal created the illusion where the front plane appears to be leaning left with the rear plane leaning right, creating a sense of weight or gravity. But when viewed straight-on, the Star of David is clearly displayed and precisely positioned, akin to aliening the sun and the moon. Lastly, when I look at the outer shape of the two Lucite planes, I see an abstraction of the Star of David, creating s Star within a Star, but that isn't in a book, just something that I see. .
