Beautiful limited edition lithograph depicting a French fishing village by renowned French lithographer Éliane Thiollier. Her work has been described by critics as bathed in gilded light, pierced with scarlet strokes. Numbered 88 of 260. Comes with original matting for overall dimensions of 18in x 24in. Overall very good vintage condition, consistent with age and use.
Artist Bio: Éliane Thiollier (1926-1989) studied art at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris where she held a state scholarship. She attended the René Jaudon workshop in the early 1950s where she refined her pictorial technique and began to learn lithography. Her ability in graphics was recognized and she was chosen to illustrate two collections of poems by Frédéric de Towarnicki.
Her work was soon exhibited in prominent salons: Moins des Trente Ans, Societe de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Automne Independents, Salon de la Jeune Peinture, Galerie Pascaud, Galerie Suillerot and Galerie Vendome. During her participation in the Paris Salon de la Jeune Peinture in 1951, she befriended Paul Rebeyrolle, Raymond Guerrier, Édouard MacAvoy, Jean- Pierre Alaux, Michel Henry, and Maurice Boitel who in 1955 invited her to Salon Comparaisons.
She left Paris and settled down in the Aquitaine region of southwest France (Tourtrès) to work. Here, the characteristic colors of her palette appeared, red and ochre. She created light-filled works, very structured landscapes in fine and strong shades.
She was named General Secretary of Salon de la Jeune Peinture from 1957 to 1964. She was also a member of the executive board of the Union des Arts Plastiques, General Secretary of the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à L'eau, member of the board of the Salon d'Automne and Curator of the Salon d'Automne in 1987.
Her prizes include: Prix des Clubs du Tableau, Prix du VI Salon International de Vichy and the Salon de la Peinture Taurine de Nimes.
She died in a car accident on August 29, 1989 in Lot-et-Garonne. less
