Carol Beckwith signed Color Sepia Photograph titled "African Houses #3" on reverse. The photo is pencil signed lower 1975 and inscribed Niamey Niger. This is an early work by the artist, and most known by her collaboration w/Angela Fisher. Photo is framed ready to hang in brown wood frame w/cream double matt.
Carol Beckwith (Born 1945, Boston, Massachusetts) is an American photographer, author, and photojournalist. Beckwith studied Painting and Photography at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Goucher College in Maryland. Beckwith’s first trip to the African continent was in 1973, where she developed a relationship with the Maasai people. Angela Fisher (Born 1947, Adelaide, Australia) is an Australian photographer, writer, and jewelry designer. Fisher studied Social Sciences before first visiting Africa. In 1974, Fisher held an exhibition of traditional African jewelry in Nairobi, where she met Beckwith. Together, Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher have published more than fourteen books, collaborated on four films, and exhibited their photography in National Geographic, Natural History, Time, and Vogue, among others. They have documented the traditions of more than one hundred fifty African cultures. Beckwith and Fisher share a respect and passion for African people, traditions, and their preservation.
