This ornamental fob was first issued when the grand hotel opened its doors in 1927. The Stevens was designed in the classic Beaux-Arts and was proclaimed the largest and most opulent hotel in the world until the 1960s and cost an astronomical 27 million dollars to build at the time. The stylish and lavishly decorated hotel drew many presidents, famous diplomats, dignitaries and celebrities throughout it's early days and still continues to do so. This iconic architectural gem still stands proudly on Chicago's Magnificent Mile and remains a testament to those glorious days long gone by.

This important and rare fob with chain and period Sargent key depicts the classic rearing lion, hotel coats of arms shield and is highlighted with a ribbon and reed motif. All the hardware for the hotel and fobs were designed and manufactured by Sargent Hardware, New Haven, CT. The fob is in excellent antique condition with a light imperfection to the surface that does not detract from the charm and character of this piece. The surface has not been polished, has an old uniform patina and shows normal wear from age and many years of use. A true piece of Chicago memorabilia from the roaring 1920s.
