The artist, Raymond Turner, was a native of the Midwest who later won fame in New York, receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1928 to work in Paris and sculpting a heroic depiction of Christopher Columbus in New York. Turner focused largely on the human figure, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Detroit Institute of Art, Guggenheim Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. See less
