When this beautiful piece was created Berlin had been staging a one man renaissance of the early 20th Century School of Paris. For 8 years in this wing of study he used the shapes of cones, cubes & spheres and had learned to create pigments from natural sources as the earlier artists had. What's exceptional is that these historical works were painted in New York City, the Bronx to be exact, where Sax had built a makeshift studio in a passageway that lead to a boiler room.
Created in the modern idiom using the ancient technique of cracked tempera with a wax finish. Hand ground natural pigments. less
