This is an unusual calligraphy of Sanskrit inscriptions created by Chinese or Korean artist. There are also some descriptions in Chinese characters. It is dated 1885 on a label. It is signed with two seals. The image size is 19" wide and 37.5" high. The shadow box frame with glass is 26.5" wide, 44.5" high and 2" deep.
I am not clear about the exact translation of the Chinese inscriptions on the sides and the horizontal paper label, but they seem to say about the calligraphy something like "Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva's Verse written in Sanskrit after (or) by Dogen who lived in Haeinsa Temple, Mt. Gaya".
