It is late classical/early Victorian style carved mahogany and a decorative wall element. It is for the wall or over a door or even over a bed. It presents extremely well and the decorator should not feel limited by its traditional uses. But it would be great to preserve the wood finish that has been developing for more than 175 years. You will love this. There is a tiny nick on the edge of the wood. Otherwise, it is in wonderful antique condition. I have owned this for a while with one other piece of antique decorative wood.

This is an American piece from the mid 19th Century.
The carved basket with flowers and berries is flanked by acanthus scrolls and flourishes. The wood patina is attractive. The number '43' is carved into the reverse side. See less
