This beautiful hand painted bowl would make a lovely catchall perched upon and table or chest. Brusher pots were created simultaneously with the emergence of calligraphy. This special larger brush washer dates to the end of the 19th century and is in the traditional famille noir family. With a typical black background, it boasts intricate floral designs throughout including chrysanthemums, peonies, lotus, and plum and cherry blossoms. The central figure is a beautifully perched pheasant. There is very little wear to the hand enameling. Upon inspection a hairline crack with a small chip was found.
