Designed with 3 configurable main compartments featuring slide … more Rare antique Japanese rosewood tobako-bon used to store tobacco and smoking accesories. Designed with 3 configurable main compartments featuring slide out partitions and a reticulated long compartment in the front. Two small drawers finish off the bottom and a pinned rotating handle on top. The piece exhibits the highest quality workmanship with a dovetailed case, dovetailed drawers, and an overall attention-to-detail seen only on the finest pieces. Tobako-bons first came into use in the 17th century and were often of the highest quality and beautifully decorated to display one's wealth and status.
Early 20th century and in very good condition. Complete with blue & white hand painted Arita porcelain cup.
Acquired from a collector of antiques who has amassed such over the last 40 years.
