Like New Paperback, 1979, A.D.A. Edita Tokyo, 48 pages, with an introductory essay by Andy MacMillan. Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Masterwork, The Glasgow School of Art, is presented in large format 10"x 14" exceptional photography with great sensitivity to the work. Book concludes with 6 pages of architectural drawings including all 5 floor plans, all 4 elevations and 4 sections through the building.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh is a seminal figure in early modernism and perhaps Scotland's most famous architect. Born in Glasgow in 1868, the architect, artist and designer developed his own unique aesthetic derived from Scottish, Japanese and Art Nouveau influences. Although his work was very influential, Mackintosh built relatively few projects during his lifetime, with all the best known ones - The Glasgow School of Art, The Hill House and The Willow Tea Rooms - occurring in a short 10 year period between 1895 and 1905. In many of his projects he designed not only the building, but also, working with his wife Margaret Macdonald, the interiors and the furniture creating a total work of art. In recent years interest in Mackintosh has increased, with two unbuilt houses - The Artist's Cottage and The House for an Art Lover - being newly realized and major retrospectives of his work being held in museums worldwide. less
