A magnificent handcrafted Venetian Rococo figural pedestal stand, made by highly skilled artisans in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy in the early 20th century.
Exquisitely decorated, hand-sculpted from solid wood to depict a putti - cherub standing on a scrolled circular base with naturalistic stump, rising on large whimsical lion paw and claw feet, the figure reaching into the heavens and climbing fanciful scrolled clouds vine, created from elegantly flowing curves and counter-curves.
A wonderful example, featuring exceptionally executed carvings, cream and gold gilt, with lovely muted, subdued pastel polychrome accents, having nicely aged distressed, craquelure - crackle paint finish, rich, luxurious golden gilding. Having warm, beautiful patina, some very minor wear from age adds to the historic depth, character and charm of this highly detailed, sturdy, strong antique.
The architectural form antique is perfect for a vanity of uses, including for displaying a special objet d'art, turning it into a coat rack hall tree, a torchiere floor lamp, or use it just as it is, a unique, artistically sculptural decoration. circa early 1900s less
