A beautiful very fine pair of large Japanese Gofun Meiji period Emperor & Empress figures, circa 1868-1890, all in remarkable original condition -depicting the Emperor and Empress in highly detailed clothing, traditional crushed bright white oyster shell faces and hands. Figures in elaborate many layered embroidered vivid textiles on a highly detailed double base a textile covered attached base and a black lacquered with brass trim removable base. Beautiful empress with elaborate headdress aside the distinctive emperor, both very attractive, both figures are marked with Japanese text on the wood underneath the base. Both are in very good condition- to the top of empress headdress included in above measurements listed.
You will see other examples of these but rarely in this detail and elaborate complete original condition.
