Outlined in 24-karat. Gold, this vase scene is engraved in gold with the faces delicately etched frosted, all to highlight the operatic story. The enchanted scene features a lady in a tented gazebo, being serenaded by a harlequin masked musician strumming a mandolin. The scene is flanked by two Lollipop Trees and a Peacock. The design wraps around about 3/4s of the vase. The lovely lady coyly holding a flower in one hand and appears to be petting the Peacock. The masked musician has one leg dangling, revealing the harlequin pattern of his pants. Incredible detail and whimsy was achieved by Wiinblad in the difficult medium of crystal. Rare in the crystal form, Wiinblad used this design in his porcelain pieces. As a lover of music and opera, he used this passion to create pieces reflecting his admiration. Rosenthal Studio-Line was started in 1961. Using top designers to reinvigorate a well known and historical porcelain company, the crystal vases are considered rare. This vase is in almost pristine condition. Measures 9 1/2 in. tall x 4 1/8 in. wide. Marked to the bottom is Rosenthal Studio-Line also has Bjorn Wiinblad signature on the lower front.
