Meissen Ornithological Porcelain Plate. The plate has a beautifully painted bird on a branch with leaves at the center and hand-painted insects and flowers to the border. A fine early Meissen example!

Date: Mid-18th Century
Condition:The plate is in good, used estate condition, with some very fine & light surface scratches, and other signs of light wear consistent with age. We noted no cracks or repairs. There is some minor rubbing to the gold, and there is an underglaze chip to the foot rim (meaning this is likely original to the factory and was glazed and fired that way).
Marks: The base bears a blue underglaze crossed swords Meissen factory mark with a dot (for ca. 1760) and various impressed and incised marks. The mark has 2 cancellation cuts making it a factory second (likely because of the underglaze chip on the foot rim).
