This antique stoneware bottle or jug has an unusual shape, with two flat sides, topped with an arc under the neck of the bottle, and two rounded sides. It has a porcelain stopper with a rubber gasket and wire bail on it, and was probably used to store oil, vinegar, or milk. The bottle is Northern European, probably French, and dates to the 19th century.
The bottle is in good condition overall. It has some discoloration--some parts more beige, some gray, and with darker smudges here and there. There is one chip on the base (possibly a manufacturing issue) but no other chips or cracks on the bottle. The stopper can be removed, but the gasket is very worn and close to breaking. The porcelain stopper is worn but intact.
