Reclining nude by Louis Nadalini (American, 1927-1995). This piece is unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of Nadalini work. Unframed (First image shows what it would look like with simple 1" grey frame). Condition: Fair; some corner wear, water damage on right edge easily covered with framing; tack holes easily covered with framing. Sketch of the face appears rugged beneath the pastel on closeup, but once the piece is viewed from 4-5 feet it becomes more impressionistic. Image size: 18"H x 24"W.
Louis Nadalini (American, 1927 - 1995) was born in San Francisco and attended the Art Students League where he studied with George Grosz. He also studied with Martin Baer in San Francisco from 1955-1957. In the late 1960s, he developed a form of painted relief, which was painting hard-edge forms of vertical louvers arranged so that different compositions were seen when observed from the right or the left side of the picture.
