About The Poster: This poster, created by one of the most significant British advertising agencies of the 20th century, showcases not only the Dutch chocolate being sold, but places it squarely in the mouth of a British Grenadier guard. Perfect marketing!
Van Houten Trivia:: "Among the chocolate brands available today, few can claim a legacy that goes back over 180 years. Van Houten has been manufacturing cocoa powder since 1828, when its founder, Coenraad Van Houten, pioneered a process to manufacture cocoa in Amsterdam, Holland. The result was a tastier and more soluble cocoa powder which spurred the growth of the hot chocolate drink industry...Van Houten's discovery also paved the way for the subsequent manufacture of the chocolate bar. This eventually made volume production of chocolates possible and also made chocolates affordable, a fact that chocolate lovers today are blissfully unaware of – as they can indulge in chocolates so easily whenever they like.")
About WS Crawford: Our friends at Wikipedia tell us that "Crawford's Advertising Agency, formally WS Crawford Ltd, was one of the most important British advertising agencies of the first half of the 20th century. It was responsible for introducing a highly visual style more influenced by European artistic movements such as modernism and futurism than by traditional American marketing techniques. The agency exerted an enormous influence on British advertising from the early 1920s until the end of the 1950s."
