This is an authentic handmade rug.It was made in Caucuses around the 1880s or before.
It has very finewool quality.

This Rug is in excellent condition, cleaned and no stained, the ends and bindings of the rug are intact as original and there has not been any repairs. There are no tears, breaks or holes.
The materials are from vegetable dyes wool pile over cotton foundation. The pattern is geometric style.
This name is believed to be derived from a Caucasian tribe, the Chechen, the design found association with a number of different weave patterns like Kuba, Baku, Daghestan and Shirvan.

The Kuba region of the Caucasus was not only a prolific production area of rugs in the late 19th and early 20th centuries but it also was a leader in quality pieces. Inhabited by a range settled ethnic groups, design formats vary in Kuba pieces, perhaps due to the different traditions of the peoples who wove them. This example includes elements that are very typical of good Kuba rugs such as a deep indigo field with repeating star medallions, all enclosed by various small devices and multiple borders.
