Very unusual and OLD antique (dated 1849) English "Milner's Portable Fire Resist" box, perhaps used on a train. Large enough to use as a coffee table or have a metal stand made to raise it up to use as an accent table. Lined with clay (for fire resistance) and interior is then lined with more metal, painted a turquoise blue. All paint and plaques are original.
Small rectangular brass embossed plaque with lion and unicorn reads "Milner's Portable Fire Resist Depositories L'Pool | Dieu Et Mon Droi | By Royal Letters Patent Sealed 1840 for G. Britian".
Large circular brass embossed plaque with lion and unicorn reads "Milner's 212 Patent Fire Resisting | Improved for the Government Registry 1849".
