A hard-to-find extra large 20th-century India independence commemorative lacquerware decorative plate with a highly detailed Shiva (representing India as a Goddess) in traditional Tamil style on the surface. Could be used as a tabletop decor or wall decor item. Its historical context is significant.
The plate is in excellent condition, with minimal wear for its age and some warping. The size is rarely this large. It shows pride of ownership from the previous owner. This piece was recently discovered in the legendary interior designer Lucia Lawrence's private collection and it has been stored in a climate-controlled environment continuously, still wrapped in shipping paper.
