An extraordinary example, this Art Nouveau style Japanese Export dragon table was elaborately hand carved and painted at the turn of the 19th / 20th century. Features a circular top with whimsical polychrome dragon painting framed by texturized Greek key running ornamentation border, over ebonized hardwood frame, with multilevel molded edge steeped pedestal tabletop riser, over intricately detailed, scalloped, shaped and pierced apron, floral & foliate decoration, figural dragon heads protruding at four sides, rising on dragon tail form cabriole legs. The underside is stamped "Made in Japan" and E67 1410 1895 is written in ink, presumably date of manufacture / circa 1895
Smaller in stature, with a stately stance, rich ebony finish, intricate carvings and original folk art tabletop, the versatile accent piece can be used in a variety of different ways, from a small wooden end table, awkward corner spot in a small room, bedside as a nightstand, lamp table, flower pot, planter, jardinier pedestal with highly decorative dragon and flower motif, shaped cabriole legs and scroll feet. The piece is in great antique-vintage condition with some highly sought after, age-appropriate wear, tear and beautiful patina. less
