This side table epitomizes the seamless merger of form and function that is so characteristic of furniture made during the Ming Dynasty when elements of furniture design were simple and austere and derived esthetic appeal from their shape and the natural colors of the materials used.

This table was masterfully handcrafted with tenon and mortise joinery. The tables are supported by straight legs that terminate in hoof feet. The planked top is panel designed to move within its frame to accommodate seasonal changes.

The tables’ clean lines contrast gracefully with the apron's simply carved geometric motif and single drawer with a pear-shaped.
