This tops the “cute chart!” Grand-mere Duffourd, on June 15, 1933, gifted this adorable French and oh-so-useful piece of furniture to her grandchildren, Yvonne and Roger Burle, and thankfully made note of the moment for future generations, by writing about it on the underside of the two drawers on top!
I’m not sure what exact manner of wood we have here, but my guess would be ash or some such hardwood.. It’s overall in excellent condition, but would profit from a little sprucing up with a restorer such as Howard’s, then waxing. Generously carved all over, as the photos attest.
The elegant beveled mirror is in near-mint condition, and swivels to and fro. Likewise, the marble is in near-mint condition, with no “issues.” My, what well-mannered grandchildren!
Under the marble top, a large drawer. The pulls are particularly beautiful; two others were probably found originally on the two small drawers on top of the marble, judging by the marks below the pulls on the face of those drawers. They were perhaps a bit cumbersome to operate, or one broke; happily, the replacements are in character. The marble is a lovely deep red with white accents and veins, in excellent condition.
This would serve very nicely as a lady’s vanity, or even secretaire
Measurements: 52 inches high overall, 29 ½ to the “work” surface. 31 ¼ wide, 19 ¾ deep. The bevel on the 10x13” mirror is about ½ inch (showing) and the drawers on top are about 7 ½ wide. less
