The decoration incorporating the hawk and peony blossoms are well known and found on vases, bowls, chargers, and urns from that period. The somewhat runny cobalt is also typical of the period, as is the applied cicadas to the neck. In Japanese culture, the cicadas are a beloved symbol of summer. There are many kinds of cicada in Japan, more than 30 of them. These beautiful vases can stand alone as decoration or can be used for flowers in any room.
