A period Kon gasuri-blue kasuri with white resists on an indigo-blue ground piece of textile depicting the 1932 League of Nations General Disarmament (Kokusai remmei ippan gunshuku) in Geneva. Textile has woven the words disarmament and league in Japanese but with roman letter, and the flags of japan, Great Britain and the USA.
The first General Conference for the Limitation and Reduction of Armaments assembled at Geneva in February 1932. Prior to this other steps were taken by the nations of the world to lighten the burden of large armies and navies, such as the principle of limitation by treaty for capital ships of the United States, Great Britain, and Japan 1930 in London.
Banner consists of several smaller pieces sewn together. Total length is 58 inches-1.61 yards (1.47 meters). Width is 12 3/4 inches ( 32.38 cm).
Textile is cotton, 100% authentic, from the period and of an extreme historic importance.
Provenance: military participant's descendant family private collection from Fukuoka, Japan.
Condition: consistent with age but still very vibrant colors and strong fabric. Some minor pulled threads. Edges are raw. This item is extremely rare and unique. Fabric has not been cleaned or repaired. Original condition.
