EUROPE
Beautiful map from 1766 by Brion de la Tour (ca. 1743 - 1803) Geographer to the King and editor of some excellent atlases, including the Atlas General, completed in 1798.
These are engravings from two copper plates. In the outermost one there is space to glue two sides of explanatory text of what is depicted in the innermost one: Europa and the Armillary Spheres.
The engravings are printed on laid paper and the watercolor coloring is original of the time.
In the 18th century cartographers liked to include engravings of spheres and globes in their general atlases, as astronomy and knowledge of the planets had become an important part of the new discoveries of the "Age of Enlightenment".
Period: 1766
In a modern frame MA made from old wood and handcrafted, enhancing the natural grain and imperfections of the wood, with an elegant black finish with a gold edge.
Framework dimensions: 69 x 49 cm
As always the print is accompanied by the certificate of authenticity I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
