74-piece bronze flatware set with water buffalo horn handles, purchased around 1959. Amazingly original set includes storage box, three original sales leaflets, two copies of the original price list and complete service for 8 plus serving pieces. Pieces include 2 sizes of forks, 4 sizes of spoons, 2 styles of knives, serving pieces as seen attached to the inside lid of the storage box, and a few pieces I can't identify! I don't believe the set was ever used. The bronze has not been polished and the horn has not been oiled. Each piece terminates with the 3-dimensional image of a "Saluting Angel" as described in the included price list. Dimensions included below are for the closed storage box, which will be shipped with the flatware upon purchase. This is a rare opportunity to own a vintage set of bronze and horn flatware in almost original condition!
Long ago and far away, a little girl lived in the Philippine Islands with her sailor father and beautiful young mother. They lived on the island of Luzon 1958-1960. Sometimes, to escape the tropical heat, they would ride in their little green Volkswagen many miles north to the city of Baguio in the cool, pine-greened mountain. In that area were talented woodcarvers and the little girl’s parents marveled at their skill and the beauty of their works. So, her parents purchased many of the carved figurines, vessels, bookends, and an almost three-foot tall native headhunter complete with severed victim’s head. The little girl’s family loved their collection of carvings for many, many years. But now the little girl is an old woman and would like to share the collection with others who appreciate unique hand-carved native art pieces representative of the charming people of the Philippines.
