This Charles Keeling Lassiter Mid-Century Modern - Abstract Expressionist original - signed art work is framed under museum glass in a gilt period style frame. The painting sits on top - as opposed to under - an acid free mat - a characteristic of the art mounting style of the period.
It is a mixed media painting consisting of watercolor - gouache and pen. The image is artist signed and dated in the lower center of the image - "Lassiter 63".
American artist Charles Keeling Lassiter (b1926–2005) was a reclusive Abstract Expressionists during the era of Pollock and Rothko. Instead of embracing the Minimalism and Pop Art trends characters of the period - he produced lively - surreal figurative work in line with Jean Dubuffet and Paul Klee.
His work has exhibits and is in collections in MoMA - the Metropolitan Museum of Art -Brooklyn Museum - Carnegie Museum of Art and the Yale Art Museum.
