Biedermeier furniture was the first style that emerged as a response to the rise of the middle class, who sought comfort and practicality in their homes. It prioritized functionality and comfort over ostentantatious ornamentation. The name "Biedermeier" is derived from the German words "bieder" (plain, unpretentious) and "Biedermann" (honest, upright citizen), reflecting the style's association with the middle class. The Biedermeier style flourished roughly between 1815 and 1848, a period following the Napoleonic Wars and the Congress of Vienna. The designs were clean, straight lines often made of local woods like cherry, ash and oak instead of expensive imported mahogany. The style is seen as a bridge between Neoclassicism and Romanticism.
This beautiful Biedermeier honey-colored center table is a showstopper and would be the masterpiece of any room. A round top perched on the octagonal pedestal with ebony details accentuates the straight, simple lines for which Biedermeier furniture is known. Contrasts of straight and curved lines with light and dark wood combine to make a stunning piece of furniture.
