18th century hand-colored engraving, with and unusual dynamic scene of a goddess riding a chariot pulled by two horses fighting off an attack by two griffins. With a heart-form in white above. From Lord Hamilton's folio, "Antiquités Etrusques, Grecques et Romaines", (1766-1776). This is a really nice etching, large size with vibrant color and in very good condition. Beautifully matted and framed in gilt wood.
Hamilton's collection of ancient vases was assembled by him after his appointment to the court of Naples in 1764, it was first illustrated, described, and published between 1776 and 1777.
